- How should I prepare?

Professional appearance - If you were hiring someone to work for your company how would you want them to look?

Do

  • Dress with business attire
  • Use proper vocabulary
  • Greet with a firm, confident hand shake
  • Maintain eye contact

Don’t

  • Say “What’s up” or wear a doo rag
  • Wear jeans below waist or wrinkled clothes
  • Speak to your future employer as if they are a friend

Positive attitude - The manager wants to hire someone they can have agood relationship with.

Be on time - Being on time for the interview, tells the manager that you will be on time for work.

Good Answers - Have answers prepared to questions that may be asked.

Possible Interview Questions
  • Why do you want to work as a …?
  • How did you learn about us?
  • Tell me about your last/current job?
  • What did you like most about your job?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Have you ever been convicted of a crime?
  • What will you bring to this company?
  • Do you have any questions for me?

References - Have at least two people available for to be a reference for you.  Make sure you ask their permission before giving out their name. Families and friends should not be used.

Follow-Up

Thank you notes-should be addressed to each person who interviewed you – get their business cards!

Mail the hand-written note the same day of your interview.

Keep it brief.

Thank the manager for meeting with you.

Repeat that you still want the job.

Give contact information.

 

Follow up with a phone call a couple of days after the interview.

Thank the manager for the interview.

Briefly tell the manager you are still interested in the job and why you should be hired.
