Using the Military to Pay for College The military offers many opportunities to help you pay for college. The four main programs are:
If you choose the military, check out the five steps to getting your degree. The military tuition assistance program pays up to 100% of the cost of tuition or expenses, up to a maximum of $250 per credit hour and an individual maximum of $4,500 per year. With a 3 year, full-time commitment to the military The Montgomery G.I. Bill can provide up to $37,224 in tuition assistance. To qualify for this program, service members must contribute $100 a month for one year. In return the service member will get $1,034 per month for 3 years. The G.I. Bill can be used for college degrees, on-the-job training/apprenticeships, certificate programs and other forms of education. College Fund Programs (also known as the G.I. Bill Kicker) This program allows eligible service members to receive up to $70,000 toward college tuition if combined with the Montgomery G.I. Bill and an honorable discharge. Loan Repayment Programs
